2.8 The scope of materials in the language classroom -
      Further advice for SDL tasks

BSL - Video English - Transcript

  1. SDL is important to reinforce & develop students on a stage further. I.e. “I plus 1” so input plus 1 stage further.

  2. SDL must meet curriculum content & assessment outcomes.

  3. SDL will encourage continuous learning, i.e. students do not “switch off” when they leave the classroom. They are encouraged to think about BSL away from the classroom.

  4. Asking students to film themselves as part of their SDL will encourage students to create their own portfolio of sign language. There are many advantages of filming student’s SDL such as:

    a) students can watch each other’s language production and can share ideas

    b) it will help students review their work and improve

    c) students can create their own sign language production in their own time and pace (and not be constricted to a time based in the classroom) and finally,

    d) the student is collating evidence of their language development and learning that can be shown to others such as family/friends.
