1.8 Teaching Teenagers

BSL - Video English - Transcript

Teenager’s transition from childhood to adulthood can mean there are self-conscious and do not always have self-esteem.

They also need a tangible reason to learn Sign Language and can be easily distracted from studying.

Their rapid intellectual growth means that they are able to learn theoretically which will aid their understanding of BSL grammar but they still need practical experiences while learning.

They are motivated by success but will need their confidence boosted by praise and encouragement.

They are really interested in information technology and the use of multi media. Teenagers are adept at using visual media and teachers can use this to enable them to practise BSL.

Teachers can utilize teenagers’ competitive natures in class but must avoid students criticising each other. They will always respond to success.
