In spoken English, the language differences between two or three generations are fairly small. They are often limited to slang, and to words that have common in the person's youth and then become less used but are retained by the older people. For example, some older people in England still talk about the "gramophone" and "wireless", while most young people would not, or would use "wireless" to mean something very different. On the whole though, the two or three generations can communicate reasonably easily.
