2.4.2 How people use Sign Linguistics

BSL - Video English - Transcript

Sign language linguistics is important in many ways. It could help mental health workers to understand their clients better, perhaps through better understanding of the clients' signing styles and their regional, age or social dialects. School teachers can understand their pupils better and learn how to be aware of their own signing to provide better language role models for the children. Sign language tutors can be more aware of the role of regional signs and of the structure of the language and other issues. Signers working in the broadcast media can have a better understanding of their own style and the style of other signers in their audience, in order to deliver the clearest signing for the audience. Monitors can use it to advise others on their signing style and the structure of their BSL.
